Wonderful things are now in progress

It was a beautiful gift of a blue glass bowl with golden bubble rings floating about. It also sat on the dark wooden table and light could neither shine through, nor the underside be appreciated with its soft curves reaching up from the surface. How could I free it?

I remember a photograph that my father had made when I was a child. He was aways taking pictures of the family and anything else that caught his attention. This particular photo was of a glass ashtray that had a flowing shape to it, with a smoky appearance inside the glass. Somehow dad got the idea to backlight it and capture this still motion glass cloud on film. Many years later, I see my glass bowl, remember what my father had once done, and say to myself, let’s see what I can also do using this inspiration.

When I placed a flashlight underneath my blue bowl, it revealed a pond of blue ringed bubbles that undulated with frozen motion. Another world could be imaged of perhaps ice age glacial ice that contained air bubbles from thousands of years ago. Maybe it was the last breath of a mammal, swimming below the frozen surface that was captured. What a record of prehistoric ordinary life could be marveled at now from humble beginnings of a matter of fact day.

My mobile phone chimes, bringing me back to the present. It’s just my glass bowl again that was made in some art factory in recent time. Just the same, the artist responsible for its design had done something remarkable as it sparked my imagination and appreciation for art. Perhaps my staged photograph is just a way to reveal my own vision on what appears.

With your seasoned Tbilisi InterNations ambassador team; Joe Boccuzzi, Masoud Yarmohammadi, and Nick Kobakhidze, hosting events and publishing online content from our website and YouTube channel, both named Tbilisi Expats Community, we are now embarking on a new chapter of promoting global minded thinking in a pandemic stricken world. We have patiently waited for social gatherings restrictions to be lifted and are still waiting. In the meantime, our past model of hosting glamorous events at some of the best hotels and cafes in the city center has been disrupted. From these fractures, as in the antidotal story portrayed in the Diving Into The Pond of Glass, a sense of imagination and creativity has created alternative worlds for us all to now explore together.
